Lost in Between
Mirror
2022
Lost in Between is a mirror in which the frame appears to grow fluidly around three fragments of objects. These fragments are broken off pieces from objects and furniture in Schloss Hollenegg castle. Not everything that breaks can be repaired immediately, and so the small pieces are stored for a later date. Even though they are kept safe, they are also somehow lost because soon it is no longer clear where they originally belonged. This idea of displacement inspired Tadeas Podracky: instead of returning the fragments to their original locations - which would deny them the individuality that they have gained by being broken off from the whole - he creates a new environment for them. The frame around them protects and absorbs them, and the floral motif of the mirror evolves from the symbolism of the fragments (heraldic rose motif, acanthus leaf, raspberry). In this way, the broken fragments are newly positioned among the many treasures of the castle.
